The design of the sushi restaurant in light orange colors and geometrics in Milan,
The newly opened sushi restaurant invites customers to travel with pastel and orange colors and geometric patterns,
which were developed for the Ichi sushi chain.
Designed by Valencia-based interior design studio Masquespacio,
the new sushi restaurant offers a fusion of eclectic flavors with a futuristic spaceship designed dining area.
Decorated with futuristic details, the restaurant’s interior creates a sense of being in a space movie with its circular panels illuminated in orange,
undulating lights covered to reveal the presence of some modules, and dining tables designed in rigid geometry.
Masquespacio, located in Milan, Italy, aims to take the brand’s identity to another level,
which was previously developed for Ichi spaces inspired by “a journey and a station”.
The Masquespacio team also aims to maintain the main principles of the concept,
while moving away from literal and traditional representations of travel.
That is why the Spanish design studio suggested traveling to the future through light.
According to the studio, travel should be more creative and futuristic,
which should become more flexible with the use of materials.
With this more futuristic look, the opportunity to represent the innovative sushi showcased in Ichi’s menu is full of flavor and color,
developed by Yango, in collaboration with Chef Haruo Ichikawa.
Previously, Ichi’s founder Yango Zhang had already developed a few spaces for his chain of sushi restaurants,
though with this new opening, he wanted to give more importance to the dining experience inside.
The project Location
The project is located in a building from the beginning of the last century on a historic street in Milan.
Intervention of the earlier design seems to be the arches and vaults,
which are highly adapted to the style of the time when the building was constructed.
However, the studio decided to move away from those traditional elements,
transforming the space with a contemporary concept and a special time-travel capsule.
The design of Ichi Station is inspired by the 1990s and represents light travel
that transports customers to learn about different flavors and eclecticism while dining in a spaceship of the future.
As is common with all Masquespacio projects,
the studio added personal touches to create a personal identity using custom-made furniture.
The main features to be highlighted in the interior are the glass tables with internal lighting that help customers enjoy a unique dining experience.
Inside, the choice of materials is based on the use of simple and pure materials, such as micro cement and glass.
The reason for this design approach is to create more seamless surfaces
that make customers feel like they are in a spaceship.
The most notable element though is seen in the second part of the restaurant,
where the ceiling has been lowered as low as possible
and where a hemisphere makes you enter a tunnel into the future where you can watch a live show by Ichi’s sushi chefs.
Another key feature is the use of an indirect lighting system in RGB colors
that can change the atmosphere depending on the time of day.
