The level of design in Saudi Arabia rises at the Venice Biennale,

On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s Architecture and Design Committee announced that it will participate in the 18th edition of the Venice Biennale next year.

The Venice International Biennale of Architecture 2023 will be held from May 20 to November 26 under the theme ‘The Laboratory of the Future’.

During a press conference, Somaya Suleiman, CEO of the authority,

said that the Saudi pavilion will showcase local talent and skills in architecture and design.

And that this edition of the Biennale seeks architectural solutions to contemporary social and human issues.

Especially since the nature of the architect urges him to continue searching for solutions and innovations.”

Suleiman said that the authority wants to open the door for participation to all architects,

researchers and specialists.

This is in an effort to discover and support talent, as well as promote equal and better opportunities.

Previously, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated in two editions of the Biennale

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated in two editions of the Biennale

Saudi Arabia previously participated in two editions of the Biennale:

The first was in 2018 under the slogan “Freespace” which is related to urban planning and its impact on social life.

Soliman said the interactions between people,

communities and places were an essential part of the kingdom’s first national pavilion.

As for the second participation in 2021 – under the slogan “How do we live together?”

Discover life in a post-pandemic world.

The Kingdom’s participation in the Biennale is also important because ”

we are talking about a dialogue on a global scale and on a global platform.”

Suleiman described the participation in the biennial as “a positive result in line with the strategic direction of the authority.”

She added: “We hope to put the Kingdom at the forefront of the global creative scene by providing opportunities for talent,

and access to international platforms, and the Biennale is one of the largest.”
