Architecture studio ODA has begun construction on the 126 East 57th Street skyscraper,

which was designed on Billionaire Avenue in New York City.

Design Features

At 386 feet (118 meters), the skyscraper will be the newest skyscraper in the Uptown Manhattan area,

known for its high-rise residential skyscrapers and high price tags.

Developed by MRR 1326, the 28-storey residential tower will run between 56th and 57th Streets

and contain 175,000 square feet (16,258 square meters) of apartments.

While most of the block of the tower is on the 56th Street side, its entrance,

which will be a six-story copper “gate”, will be on 57th Street.

The main side of the building has a slightly tapered structure,

and on the 56th Street side some aspects of the façade will appear to be projected from the whole,

making it look pixelated.

ODA explained that the design was inspired by fractal patterns.

They see fractal design as a repetition of organic forms and geometry that naturally,

at different levels, create intimate moments and focal points in architecture,

and the push and pull of the cantilevered provides indoor and outdoor spaces that connect people with nature.

The fractal design also breaks the scale of the 30-story tower as it descends to meet the ground.

The building will also feature 175 units, varying in size from studios to three-bedroom apartments.

Where the structure does not make room for patios in fractal subtractions made of it,

semi-open outdoor spaces are planned.

While this building brings human scale, playfulness, and visual interest to this upscale lane on 57th Street.

On the sub-levels, the architecture studio has made space for amenities which will include sports and spa facilities as well as a swimming pool.

The public area will also be above the ground, and the lounges will be on the second floor,

while the eleventh floor will contain a banquet room with a ready-made kitchen.

Each penthouse will also have access to a private rooftop terrace and the building will have a public rooftop space for the rest of the residents.

As New York City slowly transforms Midtown East into a residential destination,

they strive to offer a contemporary look to tastemakers and young professional buyers who value high design.

ODA

ODA has chosen New York-based firm Gabellini Sheppard for interior design.

A massive tower at 111 W 57th Street from SHoP Architects, was completed this year on Billionaire’s Row.

Other projects by ODA include an upcoming skyscraper in Seattle,

which has featured among six giant skyscrapers planned in North America.
