London-based design studio Blond has created the perfect packaging concept for the chic eco brand Fussy.
Natural deodorants have grown in popularity over recent years as an alternative to aluminum-packed antiperspirants. As far as we know, there is no hard evidence to back up claims that aluminum is harmful. But still, anything that offers an alternative to unnecessary packaging is worth shouting about.
Created by Fussy—a new, vegan sustainable body care brand, this plastic-free refillable deodorant product does exactly that. It also does away with questionable ingredients too like parabens, which disrupt hormonal function, and propylene glycol, which is toxic.
Instead, Fussy uses lactobacillus, a probiotic strain that’s typically added to fermented yogurt, to neutralize odor-causing bacteria. The probiotic works in tandem with tapioca starch to absorb moisture and coconut oil to hydrate and protect the skin.

What we love the most about Fussy is the collaboration with the London studio Blond to create the packaging. Blond has designed an elegant, sleek case shaped like a pebble. Referencing the longevity and sustainability inherent in the product itself.
The studio created the hard-wearing case using ocean-bound recycled plastic chosen because it is easier to recycle compared to bio-composites and bioplastics. It intentionally chose a single material for all component parts too. Allowing the entire product to be recycled or composted in full, without being disassembled.
An increased wall thickness and a sturdy mechanism ensure the packaging lasts a long time. Allowing the user to refill time and time again. Meanwhile, the naturally ergonomic form of the deodorant case gives the product a premium aesthetic designed to fit perfectly in the hand and sit beautifully within a bathroom setting.
Moreover, on a more economical note, Blond says the size and design of the case and its cradle, the Deo Dish, were determined by the business model behind Fussy deodorant. An important consideration was the fact that refills and the case would need to fit through UK letterboxes as part of the subscription nature of the business.
Blond chose a matt finish as a nod to homeware and ceramics, which are familiar to consumers and are often in spas, bathrooms, and other wet settings. This will gradually take on a patina, becoming more worn and beautiful over time like a pebble you might find on a beach. Stunning.
