The  Workshop Kitchen & Bar is the vision of two dynamic friends and culinary colleagues Michael Beckman and Joseph Morani.

While Beckman was building his culinary resume,

Mourani was building successful restaurants in Beirut.

When Beckman wanted to open a location in Palm Springs, he turned to his old friend Morani.

“I have always appreciated Michael’s skills and talents in the kitchen and he has always respected my sense of design, concepts and business,” Morani said.

We are friends and business partners and look forward to making Workshop Kitchen & Bar a huge success,

not just the start of a restaurant, it is the start of a restaurant group.”

The primary goal of PSLAB was to highlight the multiple sections that make up the location while complementing the unique industrial style of the restaurant.

The restaurant, which features a high cathedral-like ceiling,

requires simple lighting intervention that fits with the modern interior concept.

Lighting interventions varied according to departments;

However, the lighting fixtures used in each section followed the same approach to maintain the concept of one space.

A main insert was made on the restaurant’s ridge beam,

in the form of suspended black metal rods equipped at one end with a light bulb.

These pendants, placed above the central concrete table in a parallel manner, were also placed.

Along the central axis of the space and scattered between the rafters that form the roof structure.

The designer used table-mounted lighting fixtures in the seating areas to add depth to these sections.

These fixtures consist of a supporting plate from which extend three black steel fixtures,

ending with exposed light bulbs. .PSLAB

He was able to create alignment between the booths on opposite sides of each other by placing the lighting fixtures within the same axis.

Above the bar section, metal bars fixed to the ceiling are installed in 3 groups of 6 along the ceiling.

When it reaches the bar counter, it lowers to provide lighting for the bar seating section.

Opposite the bar, at the other end of the restaurant,

the same compositions in three groups adorn the ceiling of the private section.

Which creates a reflective effect. The products used are designed and manufactured,

Made of steel and coated with black copper plated steel, by PSLAB.

The end result achieved in the Workshop Kitchen & bar,

It is the direct result of an open dialogue between PSLAB,

SOMA Architects and owners Chef Michael Beckman and Joe Morani.

The inspiration behind the lighting intervention came from the modernist concept of space.

PSLAB relied on the ceiling height, the variety of seating sections that make up the space,

the concrete element and the colors throughout the restaurant to guide their creativity in defining the perfect solution.

The result is an elegant and modern lighting solution,

which in itself, despite its simplicity, surrounds the space and highlights functionality.

The resulting lighting concept strongly references the PSLAB approach,

in which the lighting solution is perfectly integrated into the overall interior design.

This intervention is an ideal example of the PSLAB approach.

The elements within the space,

They are the driving factors in the creative process to come up with a custom concept that fits the project perfectly.

The project seeks to preserve the elegance of the existing space,

by enhancing the verticality of the existing space.

The concrete furniture contrasts directly with the existing white building.
