AFEX Grand Prix 2027

Competition Brief
The AFEX Grand Prix 2027 recognises completed architecture outside France by eligible France-based practices. This is an award for built work, rather than a commission to design a new building.

Submission requirements
Use the organiser’s PowerPoint template and provide a matching PDF, the registration form and the rights authorisation. The project presentation is limited to four pages and should explain the programme, site constraints, team, construction approach and architect’s scope. Include location and site plans, principal floor plans, sections, an architectural summary and photographs: 15 exterior images and, where relevant, 3–5 interior images at a minimum of 200 dpi. Send the download link to afex@afex.fr.
Jury, selection and rights
The rules provide for a 15–25-member jury chaired by the AFEX president, but do not publish the complete named panel. Ten projects are shortlisted. Shortlisted practices must subsequently supply a five-minute project video; the rules also provide for assessment involving French embassy cultural services and local architects. Entrants must secure the necessary image permissions and grant non-exclusive, unpaid reproduction and presentation rights for the award’s activities.
✦ ArchUp Competition Review
The value of this award lies in examining architecture after delivery. A convincing submission should demonstrate how a building works in its specific climate, institutions and patterns of use. Plans, sections and evidence of occupation can explain that more effectively than a sequence of polished exterior photographs.
Its geographical eligibility is narrow and should be checked before preparing a dossier. The announced process includes a shortlist and further project assessment, but the complete named jury and a monetary award are not established in the reviewed documents. Applicants should assess the opportunity primarily as professional recognition and exhibition exposure, taking account of the documentation and permissions required.
Dates and editorial note
The timetable schedules shortlist selection for 7 January 2027, the final jury for 30 March and the award presentation for 6 May. A narrative passage in the rules instead mentions February for the first jury meeting; the dated timetable and Article 6 specify January. Applicants whose project completes after the submission deadline should obtain clarification before entering. The countdown below assumes Paris time, the organiser’s local time; the call does not explicitly specify a time zone.
Reviewed on 13 October 2026 against the official call, general rules and registration/rights form.
