✦ ArchUp Competition Review

The AR Public Awards 2026, which is an award to architects, is aimed at design that most interact with the people and the environment, putting the emphasis on social impact, and other areas like inclusivity and urban responsiveness. The jury has a mix of academic and professional experts in the fields of architecture, urban studies, and landscape design; still, the 2026 jury has not yet been announced which means there is no transparency regarding the evaluators’ viewpoints and possible biases. Competing in the event is free, and the prizes are in the form of publication and recognition instead of financial rewards, therefore, the incentive is more about giving the participants professional visibility and exposure than material gain. All in all, the competition acts as a crucial platform for designer firstly to put to the test their socially and culturally responsive ideas, secondly to upgrade their portfolio and lastly to get their name out there, but the absence of the financial award and the jury not being disclosed may impact the professional value compared to the case where these two factors were not there.

Critical Analysis

Jury Review

The judges’ panel is made up of people with academic, professional, and design knowledge. Their experiences go from urban studies and landscape design to architecture and its practice and research. This blending of different viewpoints guarantees that the projects are evaluated thoroughly in terms of both technical and social aspects.

Design Focus

By its very nature, the competition implies that the public must receive the greatest impact, the event should be the most inclusive, and urban engagement should be the highest. The design concepts are required to be thoughtful of social and cultural aspects, have the use of new ways in public space, and the community life is to be measured as a positive contribution.

Criteria for Evaluation

By the criteria of design, quality, originality, social impact, sustainability, and the relevance of public architecture, the projects are judged. The jury’s knowledge across many different fields enables them to provide a detailed and complex evaluation of the projects’ spatial, social, and ecological benefits.
