Competition Brief

El Concurso Arquine No.28 para el Pabellón MEXTRÓPOLI 2026 ya es la vigésima octava versión of the same international architectural contest that has asked for a design of an ephemeral pavilion for the MEXTRÓPOLI Architecture and City Festival in Mexico City. The winner will be realized as a temporary public space in the historic center, serving as a meeting, thinking and urban activation point during the festival.

Intent

The competition’s goal is to investigate how the city can benefit from the use of temporary architecture as a tool to activate public space and bring people together. The authors of the design must be able to express with their building ideas that are architectural in a very clear way and very temporary, accessible, and contemporary.

Purpose

The aim is to come up with a proposal that has a combination of conceptual clarity, feasibility of construction and urban sensitivity. The pavilion should not only be visually attractive but also speak to the past of the city and be considerate of the environment through approaches of sustainability, reusability and material efficiency.

Requirements

The contest is open to architects, designers, and students from any country regardless of whether they participate solo or in groups. The submission must consist of one digital board only that includes plans, sections, diagrams, visualizations and an explanatory text. The project has to comply with the technical, budgetary and time criteria set by the organization.

Jury

The jury will consist of architects, editors, academics, and professionals linked to both architecture and urban culture. The official jury members will be announced by the organizers prior to the assessment phase. The jury’s decision will be final.

✦ ArchUp Competition Review

Concurso Arquine No.28 | Pabellón MEXTRÓPOLI 2026 is a competition organized by Arquine which is closely related to the MEXTRÓPOLI Architecture and City Festival. Although the jury is described in terms of their profiles, they have not been named yet, so the competition is at least partially transparent at the time of the launch. The jury is expected to have expertise in architecture and urban culture which to a certain extent supports its professional credibility. The competition is directed towards professionals who are interested in culture, and the center of the competition is a real, temporary public intervention in Mexico City.

Conclusion

The competition Arquitectura No. 28 Pabellón MEXTRÓPOLI 2026 becomes a key platform to test and try out temporary architecture in a real urban context. In constructing the winning project, the contest goes beyond a merely conceptual exercise and requires clear, viable, and socially active solutions. Its value lies in the fact that it brings together design, city, and people within one of the region’s most important architectural events.
