To combat the alarming reality of plastic waste, BlueCycle and The New Raw have introduced In the company of Animals at EDIT Napoli 2023 – a unique, sustainable collection that consists of furniture ranging from stools to side tables in the form of animals and humans. The New Raw, a Rotterdam-based research and design studio established by architects Panos Sakkas and Foteini Setaki, transforms discarded plastic with digital craftsmanship. They explain that, in order to do so, they create their own techniques using a formal and technical language that highlights the layers of their robotic manufacturing process. BlueCycle is a blue and circular economy social enterprise that works to reuse marine plastic waste generated by fishing and shipping activities.

They envision creating a life cycle for plastic that involves effective research, technology, innovation and creativity in order to protect the marine environment. Furthermore, BlueCycle takes care of the entire production process from sourcing and processing materials to designing and distributing the final products. They have a traceability process in place to ensure that the material is traceable plus, they have set up a network with more than 30 collection points all over Greece. So far, they have collected over 550 tonnes of marine plastic waste. The BlueCycle Lab is the core of BlueCycle where sustainability is the main goal – all of the furniture and objects are marked with the visible stamp of their company.
