This year, Isola Design Group is celebrating their 5th consecutive year at Dutch Design Week 2023 in Eindhoven, Netherlands, with two exciting exhibitions centred around Isola’s theme; “Nothing Happens if Nothing Happens”. Since 2019, Isola has been welcomed by the Dutch design community and even been the honoured by a visit from Her Majesty the Queen.

As part of the “Something Bigger” event held in the city center’s Schellens Fabriek, Isola will be presenting their “Nothing Happens if Nothing Happens” traveling exhibition. The exhibit is 400 sq metre in size and includes a selection of innovative materials, as well as over a hundred products from 24 countries that showcase the works of talented designers. Isola will be making sustainability a priority by using Polygood® material from The Good Plastic Company composed entirely of 100% recycled and recyclable plastic.

Icons Re/Outfitted by The Visionary Lab

During a period with increasing amounts of textile waste, The Visionary Lab hosted Icons Re/Outfitted – an imaginative experience that granted new life to iconic chairs from Vitra (ranging from Eames to Panton and Nelson) utilizing recycled denim from Levi’s. Investigating the meeting point of fashion and furniture, esteemed designers Nkwo Onwuka, Hannah Brabon, Kelly Konings, Tim Dekkers, Sophie Cagniart, Norman Monsanto, Barbara Polderman, and Sarmite Polakova were asked to remold masterpieces by Vitra with striking new looks crafted from recycled denim. The result was an enthralling array of creative chairs which displayed a broad range of modern techniques and classic crafts.

Pleated Scenery by Kim Melody Zoutewelle

Kim Melody Zoutewelle crafted Pleated Scenery – a series of wall lamps made with gradients from glass powders on formed and coloured glass, which provide an atmosphere like an undulating dream-like landscape, an underwater world or a sunset when illuminated from below. Throughout the production process, artisanal methods were used, such as making the molds and sifting glass powders by hand, giving each and every lamp its unique and one-of-a-kind handmade design.

Spektrum by Giulia Toneguzzo

Fascinated by the connection between light, hues, and space, Giulia Toneguzzo created Spektrum – a wall shelf that interacts with the sun’s rays. This outcome of her enchantment with sunlight explains the character of light through the application of colors, which shine and progress throughout the day and night. Furthermore, The altering effect demonstrates the flow of time and develops the climate of an area. Offered in varied combinations – from one to nine levels – it is formed of three simple-to-build stainless steel flat components, each hand-polished with a special aerograph technique.
