Cairo, Egypt – August 31, 2025: The East Nile Monorail is set to begin operations in November 2025. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi confirmed this during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir.

Project Overview

The East Nile Monorail represents a significant expansion of Egypt’s urban transport network. It aims to improve connectivity along the eastern banks of the Nile. The project covers construction, modernization, and operational planning. These aspects are overseen by the Ministry of Transport in coordination with national and regional authorities.

Integration with National Infrastructure

Officials discussed aligning the monorail with other major national projects, including the master plans for Jarjoub and Abu Qir ports. They also considered the liquid bulk terminal at East Port Said, Galala Marina, and the redevelopment of Berenice Port. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy. The strategy seeks to integrate transport with industrial and tourism developments, enhancing economic returns and creating job opportunities.

The meeting also highlighted progress on Egypt’s high-speed electric train network:

  • The Sokhna–Alexandria–El Alamein–Matrouh line is expected to launch in June 2026.
  • The Salam City–10th of Ramadan–New Administrative Capital line is scheduled for completion in March 2026.

President El-Sisi stressed strict adherence to project timelines. He emphasized the role of these transport corridors in urban expansion, industrial growth, and tourism development.
