Curated by Philippe Van Cauteren, Artistic Director of S.M.A.K. in Ghent, Belgium, the biennial will bring together contemporary artists and artistic practices from Romania and around the world.
The 2027 edition will explore contemporary artistic perspectives while creating a space for dialogue, experimentation, and exchange between artists, audiences, and cultural institutions. Through exhibitions, artistic projects, and public programs presented across different venues in Timișoara, the biennial will engage with the city’s cultural landscape and its diverse communities.
Art Encounters Biennial 2027 also marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration between the Art Encounters Foundation and S.M.A.K. Ghent, focusing on artistic production, institutional cooperation, and the exchange of knowledge. Admission to the biennial is free, making the event accessible to a broad public.
