NEOM’s energy and water subsidiary, Inwa, has trialled helicopter-assisted construction;
To install high-voltage transmission line towers that carry electrical energy from one point to another,
As part of its mission to build an energy system based on 100% renewable energy sources.
This initiative is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,
and strengthens Inwa’s credentials as a regional leader in implementing environmentally friendly construction methods.
The individual tower parts are flown to the base of the transportation tower in the NEOM Mountains.
They are then assembled, eliminating the need to build carbon-intensive access roads for trucks, cranes and other heavy equipment.
Thorsten Schwarz, executive director of power systems engineering at ENOA, said:
“Constructing the power grid transmission towers in the NEOM Mountains is an opportunity for Inwa to set a standard for the use of this world-class construction method,
helping to offset environmental impact and preserve the integrity of the natural environment.”
