A Fusion of Past and Present

Parisian interior design duo Kim Haddou and Florent Dufourcq, of Studio Haddou-Dufourcq, have a way of evoking the past—formally and materially—to reinvigorate it with new energy. Their work, such as the calming elegance of their design for Hotel Lilou in Hyères, France, or the textured and layered yet airy city residences and retail spaces they’ve envisioned, reflects this approach. Now, they have applied that same magic to their debut furniture collection, Trama, launched exclusively for Monde Singulier.

Geometry and Artistry in Design

The Trama collection is defined by the precision of grid structures and the simplicity of modernist geometry, but with unexpected details that spark intrigue. Armrests are offset, appearing as if they have been pushed slightly apart, while elegant Classical curves race down the sides of urn-like forms. The collection’s lacquered wood pieces are neutral in tone yet playful in their interplay of negative space and volume.

A Balance of Contrast and Harmony

Haddou and Dufourcq masterfully merge contrasts and opposing forces into a unified aesthetic. The horizontal lines of a coffee table intersect with the verticality of two totemic floor lamps and a wall lamp. A six-sided mirror, not quite hexagonal, features both rounded and sharp vertices, mirroring the design of a six-light chandelier suspended from chains. Meanwhile, an angular armchair is softened with Lelièvre upholstery, adding warmth to the structured form.

Inspired by Urban Landscapes

The duo has likened their collection to an urban cityscape or theater scenography, where pieces are arranged at varying heights and scales to form a cohesive whole. Their designs capture a gorgeous tension between restraint and luxuriance, embodying a unique blend of rigor and expressiveness. If only urban planners approached their work with this much grace.
