Design Features

The one-roof house (single-roof) is located in Ban Kyu residential area in the suburb of Seoul,

and this building focuses on spatial arrangement and sectional plan rather than exterior designs.

One Roof is divided into three different spaces,

each with a different feel in horizontal and vertical layout.

In the horizontal layout, One Roof proposes to separate spaces for parents and children,

linking the family space together on a rectangular floor.

This design tried to achieve true privacy between family members while making better use of the family space.

As for the vertical layout, it was divided into floors

  1. Ground floor: It is a common space, with a large living room open from the front and back with a common seat with the neighbors.
  2. The second floor is a private area, with an exclusive family room to enhance the closeness of family members, and a children’s playground in the form of a staircase.
  3. Upstairs is a cozy space, with a hobby room for parents, a children’s library and a garden open to the sky.

Even in dense residential areas, each individual space can be well lit and ventilated by opening an opening in the sky and careful planning of windows and doors.

Finishing the ground floor, the design team used a white external insulating wall,

and the second floor and deck are finished with dark metal sheets in a vertical pattern to emphasize the aesthetic tension of the gabled roof.

The 32mm-thick polycarbonate is also covered in the south-facing triangle-shaped window,

which allows natural light to gently enter the interior during the day.
