Pollution, instability, and constant change have defined Yerevan’s atmosphere for years. Rapid urbanization, aging infrastructure, an unprecedented construction boom, political instability, and an increasing number of vehicles have created a sense of uncertainty among residents. The smog that periodically shrouds the city serves as a stark reminder of these challenges. The situation reflects an unresolved atmosphere in Yerevan, signaling a need for transformative action. The Line Armenian Architecture Biennial 2025 aims to inspire such change by fostering awareness and promoting innovative solutions that lead to a healthier and more vibrant urban environment.

Exploring the Concept of “Air”

The Line Armenian Architecture Biennial 2025 invites participants to delve into the intangible essence of air. The theme, “Up in the Air,” encourages public art installations that reflect on the invisible elements around us—dust, love, clouds, planes, and unspoken words. Scheduled to be unveiled in Yerevan in September 2025, these installations aim to make the hidden visible, urging the public to breathe deeply and reflect on the unseen forces shaping their lives.

Eligibility

The competition is open to architects, artists, urbanists, and creative individuals worldwide, regardless of age, location, or experience. Participation is free of charge.

Budget

LINE will provide up to $4,000 to cover production costs and honorariums for selected proposals. Should a project exceed this budget, applicants are encouraged to seek supplementary funding from external sources.

Submission Guidelines

An international jury will review submissions anonymously, evaluating them on originality and relevance to the Biennial’s theme, “Up in the Air.” All proposals must meet the following criteria:

  • Submissions must be in PDF format, limited to 3-4 pages.
  • Applications must be written in English or Armenian.
  • Proposals should include a rendered visual, a dimensioned architectural drawing, a text describing the concept, a construction plan, and a budget that accounts for the Armenian context.
  • Participants are encouraged to identify a public space in Yerevan as a reference point for their designs.

Submission Process

Proposals and inquiries should be emailed to submit@linebiennial.com, with the subject line clearly indicating “Open Call Submission” or specifying the nature of the inquiry. Applicants will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours. If no confirmation is received, they should resubmit their application.

Deadline

The deadline for submissions is December 15, 2024, at 11:59 pm Armenia Time.

Implementation and Coordination

The selected participants will collaborate with the LINE team to finalize installation locations and work with the municipality to ensure successful integration of their projects into Yerevan’s public spaces.

By bringing the invisible to light, the Line Armenian Architecture Biennial 2025 seeks to address Yerevan’s challenges and spark meaningful conversations about the city’s future.
