Materials used in the construction of roofs
Roofing materials must suit roof slope, climate, loading and drainage. Options include tiles, metal sheets, slate, timber or asphalt shingles, and membrane systems, according to the project.
Select the system
Compare product weight, fixing requirements, joints, insulation and maintainability. A water-resistant covering does not guarantee that the assembled roof will never leak, and a material name does not establish a fixed service life.
Cost and maintenance
Obtain local quotations covering supporting layers, fixings, drainage and safe maintenance access, rather than the covering alone. Unsupported prices and service-life figures with no identified market or source were removed, and mistranslated roofing terms were corrected.
