Micro Living 2026 Architecture Competition asks entrants to design a compact dwelling of 250 sq ft (about 23.2 m²) and show how it can form a coherent 25-unit community. The brief treats efficiency, adaptability and shared space as architectural questions rather than simply reducing floor area.

This is an ideas competition, not a stated commission. Registration closes before submission: teams must register by 26 November 2026, then submit by 3 December 2026.

Jury, awards and rights

The published jury comprises Ahmad Thaneem, Alireza Taghaboni, Ismail Solehudin and Xavier Duque, bringing architectural practice from India, Iran, Indonesia and Ecuador. The announced awards are USD 5,000, USD 2,500 and USD 1,500 for the top three entries, plus a USD 1,000 Gold Mention and ten honourable mentions with certificates.

The call describes publication and recognition, but does not state a construction commitment. Entrants should read the platform terms governing reproduction, publicity, refunds and intellectual property before payment.

✦ ArchUp Competition Review

The 250 sq ft constraint is useful only if the proposal demonstrates actual inhabitation: clearances, storage, daylight, thermal comfort and changing household needs should be tested, not inferred from a polished plan. The 25-unit layer also invites a meaningful distinction between private compactness and collective generosity.

The four-member jury is named, the file requirements are precise and the prize structure is explicit. The main professional limitation is that the brief remains an ideas exercise without a named client or implementation route.
