New Al Qudra Road Bridge Opens to Ease Major Traffic Congestion
A significant new bridge has officially opened on Al Qudra Road. It promises to dramatically reduce travel times for commuters. The structure is a key part of a major infrastructure upgrade for one of the city’s critical east-west corridors. The new Al Qudra Road bridge is designed to handle a substantial increase in vehicle flow. Early reports show it boosts traffic capacity by an impressive 191 percent. Consequently, the intersection can now accommodate 19,200 vehicles per hour, a sharp rise from the previous 6,600. Moreover, average waiting times at the junction have been cut by 55 percent. Further improvements are already scheduled. For instance, another bridge at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street is set to open. This 700-meter structure will add two lanes in each direction. It will primarily serve traffic moving toward Al Qudra City and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Meanwhile, work will continue on the southern bridge at the same junction. The thoughtful architectural design ensures these buildings integrate seamlessly into the landscape.
Transforming a Vital Transport Corridor
Once fully completed, the wider project will introduce 2.7 kilometers of new bridges. It will also involve widening 11.6 kilometers of existing roads. Several major intersections are also slated for upgrades. These enhancements are expected to decrease journey times along the corridor by as much as 70 percent.
