Competition Brief

The Premios ARQUITECTURA 2026 award scheme, created by the Higher Council of Architects’ Associations of Spain (CSCAE), values architectural excellence and encourages the good influence of architecture, city planning, and professional practices on society and the environment. This is the fifth consecutive year of recognition for outstanding architectural and urban projects completed during the period of eligibility. Various value-oriented distinctions and special acknowledgments are awarded for architectural and urban activities under the umbrella of the awards.

Intent

Through the contest, it is expected to bridge the architectural values with the public and formally appreciate the works that are breaking new ground in sustainability, professional dedication, ethical practices, and creating quality spaces in different architectural and urban contexts.

Purpose

The purpose of the ARQUITECTURE Awards is to celebrate the work that helps people get healthier and feel better, prevents nature from getting hurt, and strengthens the social and cultural dimensions of architecture. The awards intend to recognize and celebrate the projects that are already up to standard and have a continuing positive influence on the surrounding built environment.

Requirements

The works that qualify for the awards are limited to the submissions of architectural works and projects finished within the period of January 1 to December 31, 2025, with the exception of the “Premio a la Permanencia” category where works completed between Jan 1 and Dec 31, 2005 and urban planning works approved between Jan 1, 1996 and Dec 31, 2005 are accepted. Applications can be made by both national and international submissions, provided that the architects or teams are registered and qualified in Spain. There is no restriction on the number of applications that an individual or group can submit.

Jury

The Premios ARQUITECTURA jury consists of highly qualified architects and experts selected by the CSCAE. The jury members have the duty to examine and choose not only the proposals on the shortlist but also the winners of the awards. This procedure contains first the region architectural organizations’ selection and then the jury’s final decisions.

✦ ArchUp Competition Review

Premios ARQUITECTURA 2026 is under the aegis of the Higher Council of Architects’ Associations of Spain (CSCAE), a recognized professional organization whose institutional role is well defined and may thus be credited with a relatively high level of organizational credibility. The contest is aimed mainly at professionals and is based on built work and long-term architectural value rather than on promotion or speculative ideas. The jury, although appointed by CSCAE and regional bodies, does not provide the full details of individual jury members and their areas of expertise, thus slightly reducing the overall transparency. With no entry fees and awards based on recognition, the effort-to-reward balance is quite fair. The main advantage, however, is professional visibility and portfolio validation rather than direct implementation opportunities.

Conclusion and Final Thoughts

The Premios ARQUITECTURA 2026 awards highlight the architectural and urban excellence that is in line with the goals of sustainable development, health, and the society’s values. The awards are free of charge and open to any kind of design created in Spain or internationally, so they are a good tool to encourage widespread participation of architects. Designers who are seeking recognition based on the value of their work may find it helpful to compare their submissions with those of similar international awards listed on ArchUp, such as Urban & Architecture Design Awards 2026, Architecture at Zero, and International Excellence Awards 2026. A clear narrative and an exquisite presentation are indispensable for catching the judges’ attention and the competition’s focus on architectural impact and societal value.
