Spooky Castle Series: everyday items with a whimsical charm

Galapagos, combining practical product design with the charm of fantasies, recently presented their Spooky Castle Series undertaking at EDIT Napoli. It is the brand’s ambition to use design as a way to activate creativity, envisage new environments, and bring back the old adventures outside the restraints of distance and time. Each mission originates as a story prior to turning into a concrete product. Underlining the concept that design, without a tale, deteriorates into the mere production of objects.

Every collection is distinct, containing consistent experimentation, investigation of regional vendors, and the creation of new production techniques, all adeptly harmonizing with the overarching narrative it symbolizes. “People don’t need new chairs and lamps, but we all have dormant psychological desires that contemporary items with such a novel capability can fulfill”, disclose the founders.

Adopting this attitude, the brand launched their second collection, known as the “Spooky Castle Series”. This stylish ensemble captures the essence of an eerie, nighttime ghost story. The collection includes a enchanting set of clothing, a peculiar desk lamp, and a captivating shape-shifting wall mirror.

Our series of products are made from robust MDF sheets which are accurately milled and tapered to form gracious. Therefore, moving shapes reminiscent of the creatures that motivated them. Every piece is carefully finished with a slight matte to semigloss lacquer in a selection of colors with the aim of providing a feeling of delicacy, airiness and transience to the reliable and structural MDF material. It is important to take note that each item in this set is hand-crafted in Italy. The series is composed of the following special pieces.

Grounded in the art of narrative-driven design

The inspiration behind Galapagos’ prior collection is rooted in the unspoiled Mesoamerican region that was home to many cultures and populations prior to the arrival of colonizers. The core value of Galapagos lies in the belief that design should not be limited to a simple utilitarian form. It is more than just a manufacturing of objects – it should tell a story. This idea is echoed in every creative process they undergo, which is characterized by experimentation. Exploration of local suppliers, and adoption of innovative production techniques. Galapagos works with local suppliers who value craftsmanship, in order to create sustainable, medium-scale products that can be replicated.
