2.
Founder of Qishanshan
STUDIO QI
Architects, Chief Architect, Doctor of Architecture

In 2021, she was awarded the UNSUNG HERO Special Contribution Award by the international FEMALE FRONTIER AWARDS, and the 100 Outstanding Women in a Sustainable World in 2020. He studied at Columbia University as an undergraduate and received the highest honors, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and was awarded the special honor of “Centennial Scholar”. Later, he graduated from Harvard University in the United States and received a four-year master’s degree in architecture and the Pieteris Foundation Award. She used to work in Renzo Piano Office, a famous architect, and established an independent female architectural firm in 2013. Qi Shanshan was introduced as a special talent and taught at Zhejiang University, and has served as the architectural graduation design tutor of China Academy of Art. Qi Shanshan is now devoted to thinking about Chinese urban issues and Chinese rural practice, reflecting on how to transcend geographical limitations and bring Chinese culture to the world. She firmly believes that architects must have a strong sense of responsibility and sensitivity; and architecture, in the final analysis, is looking for a “just right” state. She has visited Tibet more than 60 times so far, and since 2016, she has participated in the design and construction of the Songtsan Yunnan-Tibet line and the national “Suji” project.

STUDIO QI Architects, founded in the United States by Qi Shanshan in 2012, now has a creative and research office in Hangzhou.

Architecture is a way of thinking, architecture is the carrier of human observation and dialogue with society, and at the same time, it is the link between nature and the world; and architects must be thinkers, who help build social and ecological relationships. Thinking about architecture means constantly articulating the assumed context that constitutes our understanding of the world. Architecture is small and the world is big. Architecture is a way of thinking that acts outside of architecture. Adhering to this concept, STUDIO QI insists on using a completely different creative thinking and design language, focusing on building the delicate relationship between people, architecture, nature and society, using the speculative 2.5-dimensional architectural theory to explore and Research the force of architecture and tap the potential energy of architecture in society.

STUDIO QI has won many international architectural awards, including the AIA American Institute of Architects Architecture Award, the European LEAF Green Leaf Architecture Gold Award, the A&D Asia Pacific Architectural Design Gold Award, the American WAF Master Architect Award, the WA World Architecture Best Living Award and the Technology Progress Award, etc. Published in THE PLAN, DEZEEN, DOMUS, PPAPER, Archdaily, Designboom, WA and many other international journals and reported by well-known media.
