In a place that is considered a relief by its natural terrain, an architect has considered creating an artificial forest.

The forest has been called Growing Forest and is located at the foot of Mt. Achasan in Seoul,

where Mt. Achasan is 295.7 meters above sea level.

The mountain extends from Seoul to Guri and is a very popular hiking spot for the residents of Seoul,

Guri and their surroundings.

The Public Art Observatory followed the flow of Mount Achasan,

working to establish a relationship between the natural and the artificial,

after the growing forest had stopped at a point at the foot of the mountain.

The forest was reconnected after stopping in the Chiono-dairo area near Gori,

then an artificial forest consisting of poles was established on the slope where the terrain begins to ascend to the mountain.

When you reach this point at the foot of the mountain you will enjoy a panoramic view of the Hangang and Seoul rivers.

Twenty forts have been discovered along Mt. Achasan,

whose origins date back to the Three Kingdoms era,

and present-day Mt. Bungwasan, Yongmapung Peak,

and Manjuri Cemetery were all part of Mt. Achasan.

Artificial forest design

The path begins in the artificial forest through lush elm trees,

with small poles extended until it reaches a series of straight vertical poles that enclose the space.

If you look up at the sky when you reach this large and tall expanse of forest,

you will be able to see a priceless spectacle, as the light and the breeze pass through the pillars of the artificial forest.

No need, you can lean on a small chair to take a break, and then continue climbing the path again.

You will arrive at the winding staircase at the corner of the forest,

which is a vertical park from which you can observe the surrounding area from different angles and begin to climb slowly.

You will eventually reach the Space Observatory,

which is a house above the forest, and you will see the low and flat terrain of Achasan Mountain and the Han River.

The forest has a different texture than that of other natural forests,

the difference lies in the effect of the pleasant moments while visiting it.

The vertical columns form a forest-like space,

and once you reach the top area of ​​the columns you will be facing the observatory.

In the lower reaches along the columns you will find vines that grow in all seasons,

creating a landscape that grows with the surroundings.

The role of architecture in creating the artificial forest

The architecture intervenes in the creation of artificial forests,

to intertwine with the changing landscapes whose beauty is overlooked by nature.
