free
The Borås Art Biennial 2026 will take place from May 30 to September 27, 2026, marking the ninth edition of the international contemporary art biennial presented by the Borås Art Museum in Sweden. Curated by Helsinki-based researcher and curator Taru Elfving, the biennial brings together contemporary art, ecological perspectives, social histories, and Borås’s distinctive textile heritage.
Titled “Warps & Waves in the Fabric of Time,” the 2026 edition explores the connections between industrial modernity, textile production, social transformation, ecological change, and the cyclical movement of water. The exhibition considers how histories and futures are woven together through relationships between people, environments, industries, and natural systems.
The biennial presents works by international contemporary artists working across a wide range of media and approaches, including living organisms, digital technologies, generative algorithms, installations, and other experimental forms. Participating artists include Terike Haapoja, Petra Bauer, Yasmin Smith, Marcia Harvey Isaksson, Michelle Eistrup, Nanna Debois Buhl, Sampson Addae, Sohorab Rabbey, Maria Kapajeva, Kalle Hamm, Paola Torres Núñez del Prado, and Dzamil Kamanger.
The exhibition is presented across the Borås Art Museum, the Textile Museum of Sweden, and various public spaces throughout the city. Outdoor installations and artistic collaborations are integrated into Borås’s urban environment and municipal flower program, creating opportunities for visitors to encounter contemporary art beyond traditional exhibition spaces. Admission to the biennial is free.
