New York City’s skyline is being further transformed by The Greenwich, a new residential skyscraper in Lower Manhattan’s Financial District, which now sits alongside the renowned ultra-skinny supertall tower at 432 Park Avenue, designed by the late Rafael Viñoly. Situated close to Santiago Calatrava’s Oculus and the World Trade Center at the intersection of Greenwich and Thames Streets, The Greenwich is renowned for its distinctive architectural style. The building’s whole height is composed of an exposed concrete column that is accented by rounded glass corners.
Step Inside The Greenwich
The Greenwich, which has 88 storeys and a height of 912 feet, has interior design by MAWD and 272 apartments. Over 27,000 square feet of amenities are available in the tower, including a 50-foot saltwater lap pool, spa, fitness center, screening room, and fireplace-equipped private dining area. Situated at an elevation of more than 800 feet, these facilities offer expansive vistas of the Hudson River, the Statue of Liberty, and the neo-Gothic Trump Building.
The Greenwich, according to Román Viñoly, the late architect’s son and principal at Rafael Viñoly Architects, is a perfect example of his father’s modernist philosophy. Two sculpted prisms hung from massive I-beam cores make up the tower’s shape, which maximizes its ideal location by producing panoramic homes.
Architectural Elegance and Interior Design
Terra, Aqua, and Stratus are the three unique color schemes offered by MAWD’s interior design for The Greenwich, which draws inspiration from private members’ clubs and superyachts. These color schemes are inspired by the views from the tower; they evoke the clouds, the Hudson River, and the urban ground level by combining deep browns, blues, and greys with lighter tones.
The building’s elegant design is on display in the triple-height marble-clad lobby, which is complemented by a suspended chandelier and fireplace. Another area of the lobby is the 16th-floor lounge, which has a planted terrace and fire pit.
Vision and Impact
Regarding The Greenwich’s dimensions and design, Román Viñoly highlights the structure’s serene presence in the middle of the busy Financial District. Massive concrete I-beams and lightweight hanging glass prisms combine to generate a visually striking form that blends in perfectly with the surroundings of the building.
The CEO of Bizzi & Partners, Davide Bizzi, hails The Greenwich as an example of Rafael Viñoly’s vision and believes the building will improve the lives of its occupants and raise the bar for urban living.
