Small Luxury Design Award 2024
In 2003, CLASSICS the Small Luxury Design Award was launched with the concept of “having a small luxury in the palm of your hand.” Blooming Nakanishi, the company’s parent established in 1879, has been using skills and techniques that have been passed on for generations. CLASSICS the Small Luxury creates specially designed handkerchiefs for each season utilizing Bilding Nakanishi’s technological inheritance as well as modern-day aesthetics. The company has collaborated with numerous artists both domestically and globally to produce handkerchiefs.
We are looking to establish fresh charms and potentials of handkerchiefs by incorporating the strength of design. To support the work of artists and making design even more intimate to people, CLASSICS the Small Luxury Design Award was formed in 2020. For the fourth edition of the Award in 2024, the designated design them is “HAPPY”. A whimsical piece that illuminates the area, bringing a sense of pleasure when held, and generating positivity despite being down. We are searching for layouts that make one feel “HAPPY”.
REWARDS
The Grand Prix award winner will receive 100,000 yen (approx. US$668) and be granted commercialization of their design to be sold in the company’s directly-managed stores. The Runner-up Prize is 30,000 yen (approx. US$200) and comes with the same commercialization of the design. *Note that the prize money, after deduction of withholding tax, special income tax for recovery, and other taxes, will be paid accordingly. *The amount in U.S. dollars is the amount calculated at the time of publication and is subject to change depending on the current exchange rate. For applications submitted from outside Japan, the prize money will be calculated from the amount shown in Japanese yen based on the exchange rate at the time of payment.
Submission
We are looking for high-quality handkerchief designs that measure 45 x 45 cm (square). Acceptable file types are png, jpn, jpeg, psd, and ai, with a size limitation of 6MB or less. The resolution must be no less than 300dpi. Hard copies are not allowed.
Eligibility
Regardless of age, gender, occupation, or nationality, any company, organization, individual, or group is eligible to enter. As long as the entry is unpublished both domestically and internationally. Entrants must also agree to the commercialization of winning entries and there is no cost to participate.
