The Eden offers an array of pain relief solutions

Around 28 million people in the UK suffer from chronic pain, negatively impacting the quality of life by limiting movement and causing anxiety and depression, which can worsen pain as a result. By offering an ecosystem of handy relief products, Eden tried to break this never-ending cycle.

UK designer Chris Barnes describes Eden as a ‘guardian of relief’. Comprising a modular tray system, it positions itself as a consumer-health product by enabling efficient access to existing pain relief products.

The intention is to empower users by evoking a sense of management over their pain with a set of interchangeable units for users to choose from.

They include storage for several items including oils, creams, heat pads, and oils, as well as two massaging gadgets, a pain is gone pen holder, a mood light, and a diffuser.

Depending on the user’s condition, a customizable tray can be created.

A priority for Barnes when designing the concept product was to build trust between the device and the user. As a result, he carefully considered the look, feel, and wider touch-points of the product.

Underneath the tray, a series of cards explain the positive impact or properties of each element. There’s also an LCD clock display to assist users in tracking the time when accessing pain relief.

From an aesthetic point of view, Eden is designed to create a calming effect. Sanitary colors are meant to convey a professional feel while simple organic forms were chosen to be calming.

Eden reflects the growing diversity of chronic pain relief options

With the recent climate crisis and, of course, a global pandemic, health & wellness is on the rise. It has been for the past few years. Therefore, we’ve seen a boom in designers turning their attention to medical products, of which pain relief is a concern.

The Eden ecosystem is symptomatic of a quiet revolution in research, treatment, and product design. All finding new ways to help people heal, from CBT to aromatherapy.
It’s big business.

According to a recent report, the global pain management devices market is projected to reach USD 3.3 billion by 2026 from USD 2.2 billion in 2021.

By compiling pain relief solutions into one customizable, easy-to-use tray, Eden meets the different needs of people in this growing market and the growing diversity of products being developed in response.
