Competition Brief

The VOX Architecture Ideas Competition 2026 is an annual national architecture and interior design competition organized by FOAID (Festival of Architecture and Interior Designing), India’s most established annual design festival. Presented in partnership with VOX Building Products, the competition is free to enter and open to architects and interior designers across India and internationally. It is specifically designed to recognize the work of design professionals aged 35 and below, making it one of India’s most prominent platforms for emerging talent in built environment practice. The grand prize is a Mercedes-Benz automobile.

The 2026 edition features approximately 12 categories across architectural and interior design typologies, plus a special category titled “Innovative Use of VOX Ceilings” (no age limit). The competition takes place across two zones: Zone 1 (New Delhi) and Zone 2 (Mumbai), with the live jury rounds and awards ceremony held at FOAID events in each city.

Intent

The competition is designed to give young design leaders a platform to showcase built projects across multiple typologies including residential, commercial, hospitality, healthcare, retail, public, and institutional spaces. Unlike ideas-only competitions, VOX Architecture Ideas specifically requires participants to submit completed built projects — not concepts or proposals — which means it functions as a recognition platform for executed work rather than a speculative design exercise.

The special VOX Ceilings category challenges designers to explore ceiling design as a strong architectural statement, presenting innovative applications of VOX Building Products ceiling solutions. This category has no age restriction, making it open to all practitioners regardless of years in practice.

Structure and Process

FOAID manages the competition end-to-end: curating the brief, managing registrations and project submissions, onboarding jury members, shortlisting entries, conducting live jury presentations, and hosting the final awards ceremony. The process runs in two rounds. In the shortlisting round, all entries are reviewed online by a panel of six to seven respected architects and design professionals per category. The top six shortlisted entries in each category from each zone are then invited to present their projects live at the FOAID event in New Delhi or Mumbai respectively. Winners are selected from this live jury presentation round and announced at the FOAID Awards ceremony in front of approximately 1,000 industry professionals. Three winners are selected per category. The exhibition during the event reaches approximately 6,000 visitors.

Requirements

General categories: open to principal architects or interior designers aged 35 years and below. Projects must be recently completed built works. Special VOX Ceilings category: open to architects and designers of all ages with no experience restriction. Participants fill out an inquiry form on the FOAID website, receive a registration link by email from the FOAID Secretariat, complete registration, choose their category, and upload project details and images before the submission deadline. All submissions must be in English. Contact: FOAID Secretariat at events.foaidindia.in/vox-architecture-ideas.

Jury

Each category is evaluated by a dedicated panel of six to seven respected architects and design professionals. The 2026 jury has not yet been publicly announced. FOAID’s jury panels across previous editions have included prominent practitioners from the Indian and international design community. The live jury format at FOAID means finalists present directly to jury members in front of a professional audience.

  1. Shortlisting Jury: Six to seven architects and design professionals per category. Online review of all submitted entries. Top six entries per category per zone advance to the live round.
  2. Live Jury: Same or expanded panel reviews finalists in person at FOAID events in New Delhi and Mumbai. Three winners selected per category per zone.

✦ ArchUp Competition Review

VOX Architecture Ideas is one of India’s most distinctive built-work architecture competitions: it is free to enter, targets under-35 professionals specifically, requires submitted projects to be completed built works rather than concepts, features a live jury presentation format that puts finalists in front of industry professionals in real time, and offers the most unusual grand prize in any current open architecture competition — a Mercedes-Benz automobile. This combination of attributes makes it structurally unlike most international competition platforms. The free entry removes the financial barrier entirely. The built-work requirement means the platform rewards execution and realized design intelligence rather than speculative vision, which is a meaningful quality filter. The live jury format at FOAID — presenting before 6 to 7 jurors and a 1,000-person professional audience — gives finalists a public professional platform with real industry visibility and direct jury feedback that no online recognition platform can replicate. The VOX Ceilings special category’s unrestricted age eligibility broadens access to experienced practitioners beyond the under-35 core competition. FOAID itself is India’s most established annual architecture and design festival, operating across New Delhi and Mumbai editions, and the competition’s integration into the festival gives it a live civic and professional context that is rare among design competitions globally. The primary limitation for ArchUp’s international audience is the competition’s strong Indian market orientation: the live presentation requirement at FOAID events in New Delhi and Mumbai creates a practical barrier for international practitioners who cannot travel for the event. The 2026 submission deadline has not yet been publicly announced — participants should contact the FOAID Secretariat directly via the FOAID website for current timeline information.

Final Thoughts

VOX Architecture Ideas 2026 is an exceptional opportunity for India-based architects and interior designers aged 35 and below with completed built projects to gain recognition at national scale through a free, live-jury competition format with a genuinely remarkable grand prize. The live presentation format, direct jury feedback, exhibition to 6,000 visitors, and awards ceremony before 1,000 industry professionals give it a professional consequence that most online recognition platforms cannot approach.

For international practitioners, the live presentation requirement in New Delhi and Mumbai is the key constraint to evaluate before registering. Submit an inquiry via events.foaidindia.in/vox-architecture-ideas to receive the registration link and current 2026 submission timeline from the FOAID Secretariat.
