Competition Brief

Intent

The 46th European Architecture Students’ Assembly (EASA) – Seanchaí 2026 – invites workshop tutors and organizers to participate in its two-week international program hosted in Waterford, Ireland. The initiative develops architectural education through its experimental development program, which studies how narrative elements connect with constructed spaces and material testing. The program uses modern architectural research, design-build methods, and architectural design, which functions as cultural storytelling, to investigate its experimental architectural research.

Purpose

EASA workshops form the core of the assembly’s pedagogical structure. The selected workshop enables participants to study architectural design through practical work, which includes spatial and social testing. International student teams receive guidance from tutors to conduct research, create designs, and build projects, which combine storytelling elements with performance and construction and conceptual testing. The workshops develop cross-cultural partnerships while teaching technical skills and supporting students to find innovative solutions through their dedicated study period.

Requirements

Applicants may submit their applications either individually or as a group. Workshop proposals should include:

  • The basic framework needs to show how the project connects to the assembly theme of “Seanchaí”
  • The program must define its educational purposes together with the targeted learning achievements.
  • The plan must establish operational viability together with material needs and site-specific requirements.
  • The document needs to provide details about team members, their duties, and their work history.
  • The document needs to outline expected results and methods for collecting evidence.
  • The workshops need to operate their two-week program beyond student participation requirements.

Jury / Selection

No external jury is publicly listed. Selection is conducted by the official EASA organizing committee and academic coordinators. Selected tutors act as workshop leaders and mentors, shaping the program structure and guiding student engagement.

✦ ArchUp Competition Review

The EASA Seanchaí 2026 workshop program functions as an educational platform which differs from its standard competition format. The European Architecture Students’ Assembly committee conducts internal selectionthrough the process which selects educational projects that can be implementedtested. International student teams complete architectural projects through collaborative work which combines experimental methods and narrative development. The program structure establishes research and construction work as essential research components while the final exhibition and documentation work function as main recognition elements. The model provides participants with mentorship opportunities and cross-cultural partnerships and access to innovative urban and architectural research methods which work better than conventional award systems.

Critical Conclusion

The EASA Seanchaí 2026 workshop program operates as a nontraditional competition system which assesses success through educational participation and teamwork and research activities instead of traditional award systems. The program structure creates opportunities for students to engage in deep intercultural learning while the program showcases architectural research which teams conduct as they build spatial designs through narrative-based methods. The program selection process guarantees that workshops meet assembly requirements while they deliver high-quality educational content which enables upcoming designers to receive professional guidance and global experience.
