The minimalist and evocative design by the Campanian architect-designer pays poetic homage to the feel of seaside villages by combining the indoor and outdoor spaces.

Gae Avitabile has taken on the new interior design project for the Civico 29 cocktail bar in this setting that combines the human hand, echoes of legends, and natural beauty. Between sea and sky, lightness and genius loci combine in a modest intervention in a landscape that demands respect.

The project’s main components are the substance, textures, colors, and noises of the locale, which were faithfully recreated using a minimal amount of straightforward resources out of respect for the town and its long-gone simplicity.

Along the Riviera di Ulisse in Lazio, Sperlonga is a seaside village with Roman roots that is above a rocky outcropping with a seaward-facing orientation (Italy).

Gae made the stunning choice to remove the pre-existing window fixtures as her first move. Therefore, it blurs the lines between inside and out and heightens the sense of connection to the breathtaking view outside.

A beautiful curtain made of the aluminum mesh by the Spanish business Kriskadecor. Additionally, it swings with wind gusts and makes a sound evocative coveringeach breeze, covers the walls.

Traditional European hollow bricks create a floor that gives the room a sense of long-gone craftsmanship. The bricks are filled with white lime and then sealed with epoxy.

The bar draws inspiration from the area’s magnificent structures. In fact, they are metaphysical presences that you can see from the train window. Also, it makes an implicit allusion to the sea with its sinuous shape evoking the motion of the waves.

The hanging custom metal mesh structure above the bar houses the Falkland light, Munari’s homage to the fishermen’s pots. A touch of white in contact with the palette of blue and brown, repeating the colors of the surrounding terrain.

Moreover, the bathroom serves as the project’s capstone and is a little trunk decorated in wallpaper featuring foreign images as a nod to vacation reminiscence and a suggestion to metaphorically explore for fresh inspirations abroad.
