Overview

Zak World of Façades India is a single-day conference dedicated to building envelope design, façade engineering, and construction technology. This Chennai edition is the 223rd instalment of the global series and the 3rd time the event takes place in Chennai. It is held at Taj Coromandel and focuses on sustainable innovations, performance challenges, and emerging technical solutions within the Indian construction sector.

Focus

The conference addresses the full spectrum of building envelope performance — from façade fire safety and climate-responsive cladding to thermal efficiency, passive design strategies, and sustainable materials. A notable focus for this edition is Chennai’s coastal and tropical climate conditions and how they shape façade specification, material selection, and structural detailing in high-rise and commercial architecture. The programme also touches on the gap between design intent and site execution — a recurring challenge in the Indian construction context.

With 20+ speakers from architecture, façade engineering, construction, and materials manufacturing, the conference brings together practitioners working across design, specification, and delivery within India’s building envelope sector.

Opening presentations cover façade aesthetics and climate performance under budget constraints, coastal and fire-safe façade strategies for Chennai’s environment, performance-based fire design aligned with the National Building Code, passive fire protection using stone wool insulation, and precision engineering in modern architectural skins. Midday Panel (13:10 – 13:50)

A panel discussion on the influence of design decisions on building envelope performance, covering passive design strategies, local material procurement, operational carbon reduction, and the role of simulation and performance modelling in façade decision-making. Panellists represent UA Design Studio, Dius Design Consultants, and Midori Architects.

Afternoon Sessions (14:50 – 16:45)

Sessions examine human-centred design approaches to space, metal cladding for sustainable building envelopes, sintered stone ventilated façade systems, thermal break technology for façade and fenestration energy conservation, and a closing panel on delivering high-performance façades in Chennai — from concept to completion. The closing panel draws speakers from URBN Design Studio, L&T Constructions, and Ceebros.

Post-Event Networking (16:50 – 17:30)

An open networking session for delegates, speakers, and sponsors following the formal programme close.
