Ohio State University broke ground on the Timashev Technology Tower in Columbus on 20 October 2026. The eight-story, 103,000-square-foot building (approximately 9,569 m²) will add shared wet laboratories, flexible coworking areas and dedicated offices to the university’s Innovation District.

Research space is paired with company growth space

The project is intended to house the Center for Software Innovation alongside student founders, university researchers, startups and established technology and life-science companies. That mix makes laboratory servicing, secure access, adaptable tenancy and shared circulation central design questions rather than secondary leasing decisions.

Shared wet labs can reduce the capital barrier for early-stage companies, but they also place pressure on ventilation, utilities, waste handling and change-management protocols. The building’s professional value will depend on how clearly those systems support multiple users without compromising safety or research continuity.

A financed project, not a completed innovation outcome

The tower is supported by university, philanthropic and public-sector participation, including a planned low-interest loan from JobsOhio. Groundbreaking confirms that construction has moved forward; claims about company formation, technology transfer and regional growth remain targets that should be assessed after occupancy and operation.
