Moore Park South starts next phase of public park works in Sydney

Moore Park South in Sydney is entering a new construction phase for a community sports field, play spaces, picnic shelters and a natural amphitheatre. The NSW Government announced the milestone on 4 November 2026.
Greater Sydney Parklands says this phase began in early November, mainly on the western side near South Dowling Street, and is expected to finish by mid-2027. Other areas will remain accessible while work zones are fenced.
Access before full completion
The wider transformation creates a 20-hectare public park alongside a reconfigured 12-hole golf course. Further facilities are planned in a later phase, with the overall project expected to finish in 2028.
For landscape practice, the immediate issue is how to keep a shared public landscape usable during phased construction. Access routes and separation from active golf areas matter alongside the eventual facilities. Some trees will be removed; the authority commits to replacement planting, including mature specimens. This is a delivery commitment, rather than evidence that the future canopy has already been achieved.
