Downtown Brooklyn Gets a New Public Plaza at the Heart of a Major Mixed-Use Development
Alloy Development has revealed renderings for Temple Square Plaza, a new public green space in Downtown Brooklyn. Future Green Studio designed the plaza. It will sit at the corner of Third Street and Flatbush Avenue, below the One Third Avenue tower, within the larger Alloy Block development.
A Plaza Rooted in Urban Reclamation
Temple Square Plaza forms part of the Alloy Block, a large mixed-use urban planning project in Downtown Brooklyn. The block combines market-rate and affordable housing, retail, and commercial office space. It also hosts New York’s first passive public school.
The plaza will occupy the base of One Third Avenue, the second phase of the megadevelopment. Moreover, part of the Schermerhorn Street bed will be reclaimed and converted into pedestrian space. Street lights and signals will move or be replaced. New drainage systems will replace old infrastructure.
