Brief

THE ARCHITECT’S CHAIR is the Stockholm Furniture Fair Edition of Buildner’s international chair-design competition. The sixth edition asks architects and other creatives to turn architectural thinking into a distinctive object for sitting, with attention to form, materials, structure, craftsmanship, ergonomics and innovation. A physical prototype is not required: renders and other clear representations are accepted. Benches and stools are also eligible, so the brief permits a broader interpretation of sitting.

Organiser, rights and publication

Buildner organises the competition in partnership with Stockholm Furniture Fair and identifies this call as the sixth edition. The official press materials establish a route for editorial coverage, while the public competition page sets out registration, awards and dates.

Participants retain authorship and ownership of their work. By entering, they allow Buildner to publish and promote submitted material through its website, social channels, newsletters, books and exhibitions without requesting permission again. The public summary does not state a time limit, territory, exclusivity clause or withdrawal procedure for that promotional permission. Entrants should retain source files and review the full terms where later licensing matters.

✦ ArchUp Competition Review

This brief is strongest as a compact design exercise: it asks for an object at a scale where material logic, bodily comfort and architectural identity can be evaluated together. The Stockholm Furniture Fair exhibition gives the selected work a relevant professional context, but it should be understood as exposure rather than payment or a production commitment.

The main uncertainty is procedural. The current public page does not name the Edition #6 jury or reproduce the detailed board and file specifications. That leaves entrants able to evaluate the theme, dates and prize structure, but not yet the complete judging expertise or production workload. Registration should therefore follow a careful check of the downloadable brief, upload interface and payment terms.

Reviewed on 8 October 2026 against the organiser’s official competition page and official press kit. Facts above are distinguished from ArchUp’s editorial assessment; no fabrication budget or guaranteed commercial outcome has been inferred.
